About the STCS association

The Swiss Transplant Cohort Study as an association

The Swiss Transplant Cohort Study (STCS) is Switzerland’s national cohort of solid organ transplant recipients, providing lifelong follow-up across the country’s six transplant centers in accordance with the Swiss Transplantation Act (Art. 20 Transplantation Ordinance) and within the framework of Highly Specialised Medicine (IVHSM).

As the national transplantation cohort, the STCS systematically collects standardized data on all solid organ transplant recipients treated at the six transplant centers: the University Hospitals of Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, and Zurich, as well as HOCH Health Ostschweiz – Cantonal Hospital St. Gallen.

The STCS plays a central role in transplantation research and nationwide quality assurance in Switzerland. Since its inception, it has systematically recorded all solid organ transplantations performed in the country and currently includes data from more than 9,500 transplant recipients. The STCS has been continuously funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) since 2007, reflecting its long-term scientific relevance and national importance.
