Information about STCS
The Swiss Transplant Cohort Study (STCS) was founded in May 2008. The STCS is a scientific project. All six Swiss transplant centres are involved in the study.
Following written consent, data is collected from patients before and after an organ transplant. The transplant centres forward the data in encrypted form to the central STCS database. The database provides a comprehensive basis for carrying out research projects.
Within the STCS, there are research groups that specialise in different topics, such as infectious diseases, genetics, or topics that affect the everyday life of transplant recipients (e.g. medication intake, sleep, quality of life, ...).
The patient advisory board
The Patient Advisory Board of the STCS was founded in 2018. It brings the perspective of transplant recipients to the research projects.
The members of the Patient Advisory Board are organ transplant recipients and know the topic from their own experience. Due to their life stories, they view organ transplantation from a different perspective than specialists.
Our activities
The Patient Advisory Board is involved in the strategic committees of the STCS (e.g. participation in the Steering Committee, Scientific Committee) and in research projects. In concrete terms, this means:
In the preparation of a study
- Reviewing planned studies
- Formulating your own research questions
During the realisation of a study
- Advising researchers and collaborating, especially if the study is aimed directly at patients
When finalising a study
- Checking and adapting the summary of the study to understandable everyday language
Collaboration between patients and researchers leads to studies that address the needs and questions of transplant recipients.
